Who contributes to the childcare costs?
In Switzerland, there are various ways in which care at home can be financed. The following information provides you with an overview of the most important sources of funding.
Personal contribution
The person receiving care always pays the costs for rent, food and personal needs themselves. They also bear part of the care or support costs directly.
Basic health insurance
Compulsory health insurance covers a legally defined proportion of recognized care services (e.g. CHF 52.60 per hour for medium care requirements). Prerequisite: The care is provided by recognized personnel (SRC, Spitex). Pure care of a non-medical nature is not covered.
Helplessness allowance (AHV/IV)
This monthly lump sum is paid out in the event of helplessness. Depending on the degree of severity, the amount is between CHF 237 and CHF 948 per month. Medical proof is required.
Supplementary benefits (EL)
If income and assets are not sufficient to cover care costs, supplementary benefits can be applied for. Depending on the canton, these also cover the costs of care at home or in a nursing home.
Private supplementary insurance
Some people have voluntary supplementary insurance that can cover certain care costs in full or in part.
Relatives
Family members can help voluntarily. There is only a legal obligation to bear the costs in exceptional cases. Our specialist office will be happy to help you with questions about funding, applications or organizing assistance. Contact us for a non-binding initial consultation.
